Shutting down

Hey everyone, it's been quite a while since I've last updated this blog. I've always wanted to come back to this blog to update you all on FOTC news, but since there hasn't been much going on in the past couple years, it's been tough finding news. Life has taken over and I just don't have the time for it, or the patience.

I am shutting down Folk You. I want to thank everyone who viewed the blog and helped with the design. It was great fun running the blog and writing about the Conchords. But It's time to shut down. There's many sites out there that get the news faster and keep it current. I suggest going to the Flight of the Conchords fan forum located here: http://fotcmb.com/ You can find all the current news there. I will keep the blog up for those who want to read over past posts though.

I may come back to this blog in the future, maybe make it an all purpose blog for other tv shows. Maybe even movies, gaming, art, music, etc. But at the moment; I have no interest in writing blogs. I had a great time with this blog. I met some interesting people when running the blog, some people who worked with the Conchords and many fans.

Anyways, have a good one!

Flight of the Conchords new song for Charity

Sorry for the long hiatus, and I think I'll continue to update the blog when I can, anyways I'm back with some awesome news. Flight of the Conchords have finally released a new song, and it's much more serious than comedic, well it is still pretty comedic. It's called Feel Inside (And Stuff Like That) and it's for Red Nose Day an annual charity event in many countries. I honestly don't know any of the guest singers, but there are a lot of them. The video also has Bret and Jemaine interviewing children, and we get what seems like a nice short Flight of the Conchords episode in the beginning of the video.

Anyways check it out below.

Bret McKenzie wins Oscar for best Original song

Photo Copyright Reuters: Mike Blake

Well it was great news when Bret McKenzie was nominated for an Oscar, and it was pretty awesome to see one half of the Flight of the Conchords win that Oscar. Bret McKenzie won his first ever nomination. I watched the whole show to see it, and I might add that this moment was the most fun during the show, especially with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis presenting the award. The rest of the show was a waste though.

Anyways I'll keep it short. Congrats Bret McKenzie, it was well deserved.

And sorry for posting this late, I was going to post it the night of, but been far too busy as of late.

And the Oscar nomination goes to... Bret McKenzie!

Bret McKenzie has been nominated for Best Original Song Academy Award for The Muppets track "Man or Muppet". Can you believe it?

CONGRATULATIONS BRET!

He's got only one contestant to defeat, "Real in Rio" from Rio (Jemaine voiced Nigel, the bad cocatoo in it). Luckily, Jem didn't write this song, so the boys don't stand against each other.

I so hope Bret wins!

#SaveCommunity

Image obtained from: Critical Failure.com
I understand this doesn't have anything to do with Flight of the Conchords, but it has to do with one of my other favorite shows on TV right now. NBC has recently put Community on hiatus for a while after the Holiday season, when it will come back is unknown. The show was benched to make way for 30 Rock which is supposed to air sometime next year. This is not good as a hiatus usually brings a future cancellation.

Anyways a bunch of fans, like myself are trying to make sure the show does not get cancelled. Now this doesn't officially mean Community will be cancelled, but it's not a good sign either as a cancellation is more likely to happen. Right now we can fight this and hopefully get Community to stick around for a few more seasons, or for #SixSeasonsAndAMovie.

Here's how you can help, sign the petition here to save Community from being kicked from the mid-season schedule: http://www.save-community.com/ It's almost at 50,000 and would be even better if we could get up to 100,000 or more. You can also tweet these hash tags for support: #SaveCommunity #Sixseasonsandamovie #SaveGreendale #OccupyNBC #OccupyGreendale and more.

You can also contact NBC by letter by writing to: Robert Greenblatt to NBC Universal, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608. Or you can e-mail them about it and tell them how you feel.

You can also send them felt beards in support of the show, I plan to do that very soon here.

There's also a great tumblr site where you can post your picture in support of the show, check it out here: http://welovecommunity.tumblr.com/

You can also go to the NBC store and purchase Community merchandise, it's one way you can show NBC you care.

One last thing folks, make sure you tweet, or write on your Facebook wall that Community is new tonight on NBC at 8PM EST. Don't forget to miss it, we want to keep Community on the air. You can use any social networking site you want, just get the news out there that we need to save Community. Lets get this show to six seasons and a movie.

Tweet it, sign it, write them, Facebook it, send in a felt beard and or do whatever you can to help.

Bret and The Muppets

It's been quite some time since this blog has been updated, not a whole lot has been going on in the world of Flight of the Conchords. Wish I could keep you all updated about FotC this and that, but I may have to start bringing this blog up as a "My favorite shows" blog. Changes may be made in the coming weeks if I feel up to it.

Anyways Bret McKenzie did a short interview about being the music supervisor for the new Muppets movie. It's only 56 seconds long, so by short I meant really short. Check it out below:

It's been a while since I've updated the blog. Bret's birthday was last month and I completely forgot to mention it.

Some news for you all. Bret will be starring in the upcoming movie Austenland which is being produced by Twilight writer Stephenie Meyer and directed by Jershua Hess: co-writer of Napoleon Dynamite and wife to Jared Hess. Shannon Hale, the writer of the book will do the script.

I've never read this book, but they say it's going to be a romantic comedy. Hope it's good! We'll see.

Jemaine to guest star on new Napoleon Dynamite show

According to many sites, Jemaine will be guest starring on the new Napoleon Dynamite Animated series that will be airing on Fox sometime in 2012. It's not know if he'll be a regular guest star, or just a one episode appearance. Here's hoping he appears in a ton of episodes. Read more about this great news here: EW

Synopsis for the show:

Based on the hit film, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE is an animated series that follows the continuing adventures of America’s most awesome awkward teenager and his quirky family and friends as they struggle to navigate small-town life in rural Idaho. The original cast from the film – Jon Heder, Aaron Ruell, Efren Ramirez, Tina Majorino, Sandy Martin, Jon Gries and Diedrich Bader – will voice their characters in the series, and many new characters will be added along the way. NAPOLEON DYNAMITE (Heder) is a 16-year-old boy convinced – for no apparent reason – that he is destined for greatness and blessed with unlimited “sweet abilities.” He spends his days practicing ninja moves, drawing ligers, soul dancing and bragging about his “girlfriend in Oklahoma” whom nobody has ever seen. Napoleon’s brother, KIP (Ruell), is an unemployed 32-year-old who lives at home and believes he would be an amazing catch for any girl who would respond to his online come-ons. The Dynamite brothers live with GRANDMA (Martin), a crusty woman who can often be found four-wheeling with her lady friends at the local sand dunes. Napoleon’s allies include PEDRO (Ramirez), his unflappable best friend who has recently been elected class president; and DEB (Majorino), an incredibly sweet girl who sees the good in Napoleon and dreams of someday being his wife. Napoleon’s UNCLE RICO (Gries) lives out of an orange custom van, where he obsesses over his botched high school football career and dreams up ways to become rich and famous. Then there’s REX KWON DO (Bader), a self-proclaimed martial-arts master who runs the local dojo. Guest voices in the debut season include Jennifer Coolidge (“American Pie,” “Legally Blonde”), Sam Rockwell (“Choke”) and Jemaine Clement (“Flight of the Conchords”).

A real person behind @JemaineC and it's NOT Jemaine Clement

Sorry if I get too emotional in this post, but one of the things that get on my nerves are people who try to get attention pretending to be someone they really aren't and getting away with it when they manage to cheat thousands of people. One of the meanest kinds of this is impersonating a famous person.
If you follow @JemaineC on Twitter, be aware that the person who tweets from this account has no connection with real Jemaine Clement (maybe she saw him on the streets of NYC, that's all) and she doesn't even talk with New Zealand accent.
Yes, SHE. Her name is Patricia and this is what she wrote on her website,

Shhh...since October 2009, I've been tweeting as Jemaine Clement. I decided to take the wheel after discovering a Twitter absence from my number one all-time favorite show, The Flight of the Conchords.

My following has grown to over 3,000 people, gaining more and more each day.

Today, she has over 10 thousand followers which suprises me, since the account is not verified and @fotc IS!
I hope, when real Jemaine finds out about it, he will do something with the impersonator. It has happened before with some fake Jemaines on MySpace and after he made a complaint, the fake accounts were removed.

Try to invent someone else, girl, and stop making fools out of Jemaine's fans!
GRRrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

Bret to star as an elf in 'The Hobbit'

Source - Variety

According to Variety, Bret will be starring in The Hobbit as an Elf named Lindir. I've never read the Hobbit, so I'm unsure if he's a main character or not. Lets hope so. Here's the article by the way:

"Flight of the Conchords" star Bret McKenzie has joined the cast of "The Hobbit," which began shooting March 21. McKenzie, who made brief appearances as an extra in the first and third "Lord of the Rings" pics, is playing Lindir, an Elf of Rivendell.
More to come ...

Feel free to discuss the Hobbit and the inclusion of Bret in comment form below.

Nigels

You should probably already know that FOTC work with New Zealand Symphony Orchestra also known as Nigel Collins, but this post isn't going to be about him or his clones.

The first Nigel is a character played by Bret in his new film called Two Little Boys directed by Duncan Sarkies. I wrote about this little earlier. The shooting was finished at the end of February and the premiere is planned in early 2012. If you want to find out more, read interviews and keep an eye out on this film, visit its facebook page.

I can recommend you to listen to an episode of a radio show Hamish & Andy where Bret was a guest on February 11th. Hamish Blake co-stars in the movie and he and Bret seemed to get along with each other pretty well during the shooting.

Listen to the show here or download the episode.

The other Nigel is an animated character, a cockatoo voiced by Jemaine in Rio. You're going to see this film much sooner - next month on April 15th! Another great news is that Jemaine will feature in the soundtrack from Rio. He sings "Nigel's Song" and you can already listen to it here!
